Taliban Authorities and Pakistani Forces Claim Numerous Fatalities in Fresh Cross-Border Clashes
Fresh hostilities erupted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border early on Wednesday morning, with each side blaming the opposing side of initiating lethal clashes.
Pakistan's military stated that its forces had killed "15-20 Afghan Taliban" and injured many in the Spin Boldak district border district.
A Afghan authorities representative claimed that 12 Afghan civilians had been fatally struck and more than 100 wounded by Pakistani firing. He further stated that numerous military personnel had been killed. None of the alleged deaths could be independently confirmed.
Violence between the neighbouring countries has escalated since explosions rocked Afghanistan last week, which the Afghan capital attributed on Pakistan. The Taliban reject allegations that it is harboring armed groups aiming at Pakistan.

The opposing forces are not only battling for the advantage on the border, but also on digital platforms, attempting to convince the public that their faction is inflicting more damage.
The most recent fighting come after intense cross-border hostilities over the weekend, when the Afghan forces asserted to have killed fifty-eight members of the Pakistani military and Islamabad said it neutralized 200 "militants and linked insurgents". Local Reports and Consequences
Videos allegedly of the fighting and its aftereffects have been shared on the internet and on messaging groups, including footage said to be of those deceased and grainy shots from night vision cameras claiming to be of guard positions demolished. These videos have not been authenticated.
A informant in Spin Boldak in Afghanistan stated that fighting broke out at around 4 a.m. local time (23:30 GMT on the previous day). Another local in the district, who lives about one kilometre away from the frontier post, reported that "intense clashes persisted for almost several hours".
"We observed drones and fighter planes flying over us, a number of our relatives are injured," they added.
A doctor in one of the hospitals in the region stated that he tallied "7 fatalities and 36 injured brought to the medical center", including males, women and minors.
The circumstances were "tense" and additional victims were being transferred to medical care, he said.
Evacuations and Global Responses
A local authority figure in Spin Boldak announced that "numerous of households have been displaced since last night due to the intense fighting". He mentioned they were on "maximum readiness" after a several Taliban posts were attacked by aircraft from Pakistan. He further indicated that they had the remains of 2 armed forces members.
In a distinct overnight engagement on Pakistan's north-western frontier, the Islamabad's forces claimed that twenty-five to thirty Taliban and local insurgent fighters were "suspected" to have been eliminated.
The clashes have prompted appeals for reduced tensions from foreign nations including China and Moscow, as well as a proposal from US President Donald Trump that he could step in to facilitate peace.
On Wednesday, Richard Bennett, United Nations representative on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, wrote on a social media platform that he was "very worried" by accounts of civilian casualties and displacement because of the fighting.
"I urge all parties to practice maximum restraint, safeguard non-combatants, and abide by global regulations," he stated.
Long-Standing Tensions
Islamabad has for years accused the Afghan Taliban of permitting the Pakistan Taliban to function from their territory and battle against the Pakistani administration in an attempt to impose a rigid Islamic-led system of rule.
